In August of 2014 Pastor Mike Jones and Lady Jarene Jones relocated from Northern Virginia to Virginia Beach, Virginia and quickly began laboring in Ministry. One day while sitting at the kitchen table, the Lord prompted Elder Jones to look for a suitable place to begin a ministry of their own. Upon examination of “Craig’s List”, he noticed a place that had been posted only sixteen minutes earlier! Pastor Jones then called to inquire about renting the space and God blessed him to secure it the very same day!
6210 Pardue Ct. Virginia Beach, Virginia was the first home of City of Refuge II. The first Sunday service was held on July 17, 2016 at 8am. Pastor Mike Jones preached from the topic: How Well Do You Know Him? The available Sunday morning 8am-10am morning worship time was challenging at times but the couple stayed faithful. The Ministry formally began with a three-day revival from June 30- July 2, 2016. On July 2, 2016 Elder Mike Jones was installed as Pastor of City of Refuge II.
On October 1, 2016 God supplied much of the furniture and equipment, free of charge that was needed for the church when another space became available just a few doors down. This space allowed for more flexibility in worship time for the present congregation and also in the future as the church grew. That new and present address is 6216 Pardue Court, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Spring of 2017 at City of Refuge II was very busy. The church was able to rent two spaces adjacent to the church. Pastor Mike worked hard to get both spaces ready for the vision God had given him.
The grand opening of our grocery foodbank, sponsored by the “FOODBANK of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore” took place on June 17, 2017. This would be the first program under our Non-Profit Organization, C.O.R.E (Community Outreach Relief Expansion).
The other space is a small multipurpose room and will be used for intimate conferences, small group meetings such as the Community Recovery Program, Youth Church and Mentorship Program for youth.
In 2019 we secured our 4th spot in the complex and have now expanded the church in size.
We are so grateful to God for the things He has done in this first year of Ministry. Please continue to keep us in prayer as we continue to serve God through serving His people.
